Carolina Tanzer, DO

I'm a Board Certified Psychiatrist with 15 years of experience in Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry.

I graduated from medical school at NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine and thereafter completed my Postgraduate training in Psychiatry at Bergen Regional Medical Center (NJ) in 2013. After my Psychiatric training, I went on to pursue a subspecialty training fellowship in Geriatric Psychiatry at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, which I completed in 2014. After graduating the Fellowship program, I began practicing as an Inpatient Geriatric Psychiatrist at Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital, NY, where I was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry. I practiced at Mount Sinai for four years until I went on to practice at Maimonides Medical Center in 2018. At this Brooklyn-based hospital, I worked as an Inpatient Psychiatry Attending and did monthly shift work as an Emergency Room Attending. During this period, I had the opportunity to teach Psychiatric residents while they completed their clinical rotations. Practicing in both the emergency and inpatient settings for those first 6 years after my training provided me with extensive experience in treating acutely ill patients.

During those 6 years I also had the opportunity to gain experience in Telemedicine/Telepsychiatry:

In 2016, while still working at Mt. Sinai St. Luke’s, I started working a few shifts a month with the Emergency Telepsychiatry department at Lenox Hill Hospital, NY. The patients I evaluated through these services were located in remote emergency rooms. Seeing emergency patients remotely could make the evaluation challenging, but my previous experience with emergency patients provided me the knowledge and confidence that I needed to evaluate the patients thoroughly.

It was during my Telepsychiatry experience at Lenox Hill Hospital that I began to love working with telepsychiatry services—I  started working with an Outpatient Telemedicine practice, and soon after decided to start my own practice. My intention was to have less time constraints and more flexibility to apply the philosophy behind my medical training —treating the whole person.

In my practice, I specialize in Adult Psychiatry, specifically Depression, Anxiety disorders, Bipolar disorder, Insomnia, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and Panic Disorder. I also guide patients with Psychotherapy including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness.

Outside of behavioral health care and in my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family. We like to go on outdoor adventures such as hiking and visiting various parks.

I am currently licensed to practice in Arizona, California, and New York.

I'm always looking for new and exciting opportunities. Let's connect.
